August 2018 meeting wrap-up

On Sunday, August 12th the support group met in the afternoon for “Show & Tell”. We had a chance to share some of the do-dads that work for us. A summary:

EARPLUGS – Some inexpensive ones we liked:

Vibes – uniform decibel reduction that allows you to hear other things:

Deftget - 2-in-1 (green/yellow) decibel reducers with stronger/less-strong options: www.amazon.com/livemusic-Protectors-Protection-Construction-deftget/dp/B0725GRWWJ

Earplanes – pressure-equalizing and noise reduction:

HEARING AIDS WITH MASKERS – go to your audiologist for them; vetted by ATA.

The ones with the chimes – great for some people:

The ones with the white noise – several of us are using them:

SOUND THERAPY

The pillow with 2 binaural speakers, provided sounds/music and plenty of volume: www.soundpillow.com - vetted by ATA; call Scott Armbruster & ask for discount. One of our members found using a cube-shape outside speaker with the provided sounds/music worked better for him than the pillow.

One of our members uses this single pillow-speaker – inexpensive, portable: www.amazon.com/Company-PS2-SoftSpeaker-Pillow-Speaker/dp/B000AL6NVO

Various members have used the in-ear sound therapy alternatives offered by the U of MD tinnitus clinic or by the V.A. (Neuromonics, etc.), with varying degrees of success. Usually hyperacusis reduction is the first improvement. Many of us who have had ultimate success in Tinnitus volume reduction with these devices, found we had to continue using them for up to 18-20 months, so something to keep in mind.

Please be aware that the current edition of TINNITUS TODAY from ATA comprehensively covers the complex topic of medications and Tinnitus – something our group has been asking about!
